some points with you for online shopping
and what to look for before purchasing
from any website/merchant online. Also,
keep in mind that price comparison websites
do not necessarily sell products themselves.
They offer a service to search, compare,
and read reviews before buying from other
merchants.
Tips for Online
Shoppers Success:
- When landing at a merchants
page to buy, make sure you are familiar
with some logo’s (BBB - Better Business
Bureau, PayPal Certified, VeriSign Verified,
E-commerce by Yahoo, BizRate.com verified,
and Google Checkout). All of the above
add credibility to the merchant and are
indicators that you would be purchasing
from a reliable source.
- When at the checkout
page, your order is only secure if the
URL begins with “https://”
(notice the ‘s’ for secure).
Beware that many merchants still do not
offer a secure checkout page. You can
verify the authenticity of a merchant
by calling them. Most reputable merchants
will also accept orders over the telephone.
- Always make sure that
there is contact information on the site.
Look for a “Contact Us” area,
with phone, address, or better yet, the
option to speak with an agent via live
chat. Anything that indicates you will
get the attention/answer you need and
an immediate response from a human should
you have a question.
- Read the merchant’s
Return Policies. Make sure that whether
you are buying the product as a gift or
for yourself, that there is an option
to return it (either for a refund or exchange).
Many shoppers avoid reading refund policies
and just jump into the purchase. In the
event that they want to return the item
for a refund, they may be out of luck.
Some merchants return policy clearly state
that “All Sales are Final”
but you won’t know unless you read
it. So take your time and get in the habit
of surveying a merchant’s website
before making a purchase. You will be
happier in the end, and the merchant will
appreciate your business and positive
feedback.
